Chicago Wicker Park

Take a seat.............. This is a story about a checkered table..........

Where in the 1950's........... My dad took me to watch older men in this park play chess.
It's Wicker Park in Chicago! These may not be the same tables. I remember them being closer to the fence. Also there was a long line of the checkered tables and benches. Men wearing hats and smoking cigarettes~ Many were speaking Polish.

My hubby and I was in this area the other day and I had my camera in my purse.
There now is a Memorial Garden ~

People can picnic here and enjoy the park and the people.

It's a nice place to take a walk.

And to enjoy the scenery in winter or summer.

The lights in the center were lite up during the day.

It's here for you to enjoy the winter's beauty in Chicago~

There was the usual Chicago Park signs ~

Green Shortbeard cookies for Saint Paddy's Day

Green Shortbread cookies for Saint Paddy's Day ~

McCoy green Waving clown cookie jar in barrel. Produced in 1953 to 1955. Remember pre heat your oven to 325 degrees and take out your butter for about a 1/2 hour before baking.
In a large mixing bowl cream your
1 cup of butter with about 3 drops of green food coloring, mix it well
mix in 1/4 cup plus 2 teaspoons of sifted confectioners suger
1/4 cup brown sugar presssed tightly in the measuring cup.
Mix till light and fluffy.
Gradually mix in 2 cups of all-purpose flour mix well. (Don't overmix it will make the dough tough)
Divide the dough in two balls. Cut parchment paper to about 7 1/2" round. Take a ball of dough and press it flat on parchment paper. Use the edge of a fork to do the edging around the cookie. Repeat with remaining ball of dough.
Bake for 24 minutes. The edges will be slightly browned. Put on wire cooling rack for about ten minutes. Then cut into wedges like a pie. Each large cookie will do 8 wedges nicely.
Great baking and enjoy ~
