Painting

I found this painting a few years ago. Isn't he fun? We call him "Charlie". I now have him hanging in my living room. I found him for only $8.00. Wasn't that a steal??

Check out a few things we've added...........

How do you like the fun hanging utensils I found "junking" around? I'm always looking for cool retro toy housekeeping kitchenalia for the museum.

This is why if you buy on Ebay you just might not get what you pay for! After I said I'd pay extra for bubble wrap and double boxing!! It came in newspaper and not even that much newspaper!

Redoing the kitchen

Since my shop is pink, I needed another pretty color to add into my "kitchenalia" life. We just had the kitchen painted and I went from chefs in the kitchen to a retro kitchen. This is the first seek peek of my new kitchen.

So, what do you think?

Valentine Day cookies

With Valentine's Day around the corner ~ Here's a yummy roll out cookie you can cut out with a heart shaped cookie cutter and sprinkle with red sugar sprinkles. What could be better then a cookie jar filled with these yummy cookies? This should make about five dozen cookies.

Valentine Day Cookies
Take out your butter
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
In a very large bowl sift together:
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup sugar
Take 1/2 cup of room temperate butter cut this in with a pastry blender until it is of a course texture.
Use a fork and blend in:
1 egg (beaten)
2 tablespoons of cream or milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Now you can use your washed hands to mix this and form a ball. Don't over mix this or it will make the dough tough.
Wrap this in plastic wrap and refrigerate for a few hours. You don't want to roll out sticky dough.
You will need a non stick type baking sheet or lightly spray a non coated baking sheet with non stick cooking oil.
On a clean, dry table surface or large flat cutting board lightly sprinkle flour.
Divide the chilled dough into four hunks. Take your rolling pin and roll out the dough (not too thin) Take your heart shaped cookie cutter and press down and cut them out and put on the cookie sheet. These will spread so space them about an inch away from each other. Shake your red sugar sprinkles on them.
Bake 7 minutes (ovens very so some will need a minute or two more)
Cool on a wire rack.

Damp day in Chicago

Saturday project

It's a damp cold 30 degree day in the Windy City. So Let's heat up our kitchen and bake some cookies!
Cherry Pink Spritz Cookies
You will need a cookie press for these.
Heat oven to 400 degrees ~ Take out the butter
In a smaller bowl sift together:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
Set aside
In your large mixing bowl get your fork and cream together:
1 cup butter
A few drop of red food coloring
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix till it's light and fluffy. Next beat in
1 Egg
Slowly mix in dry mixture

If dough is too sticky, put in fridge for an hour or so.
Put pink dough in cookie press. Pick out a round wreath type looking disk. This will make a rounded design. Cut in quarters a red Maraschino cherry. Put the small cherry piece in the middle of the cookie. Press cookies on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 7 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees.
Makes about 85 cookies. ~Yum~

Baking cookies to warm up your kitchen ~

Today I thought I'd do what I call " Peanut Butter Choceze". This is a nice hearty cookie for a cold winter day. Good with a cup of coffee ~ hot tea ~ hot chocolate or a glass of milk.
Always remember to preheat the oven. Today at 375 degrees. Also take out your butter about an hour before you start your mixing. I like to use a big mixing bowl when everything is all put together. It saves on flour spilling over the edge.
It a small bowl sift together:
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Set this aside for later.
In the large bowl get your fork and start mashing together
1 cup of butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar (push down on the sugar so it is tight and full)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Make sure it is mashed and mixed well and add
1 egg get the egg mashed in well.
Now, slowly add the small bowl of the flour mixture to the large mixing bowl with the butter mixture. When this is mixed well add:
1 cup Peanut butter chips (6 oz)
1 cup chocolate chips (6 oz)
Don't mix with your bare hands. Use a very large serving spoon.
No need to grease up the baking sheet. I use the "Teflon" coated type baking pans.
Use two teaspoons for dealing them out on the cookie sheet. Drop them not too close together. They need a little space to flatten out as they bake.
Bake at 375 for 7 to 10 minutes. Put the oven light on to check on them. Opening the oven will allow heat to escape. So look through the window and see if they are baked to a tanish color. This should make about 6 dozen yummy cookies.

Looking for a Big "Cookie Mixing" Bowl or "Homey" Serving Plate? Maybe even a Cookie Jar? Stop in and see what Jazze Junque has to offer. We are located at 3419 N Lincoln Ave. In Chicago. Just under the Brown line el/Paulina stop. Monday 10 am to 2 pm/Tue~Wen/Thurs/Fri 10 am to 6pm/Sat 11amto 5pm
